Fraction Pie with Paper and Scissors

The fraction pie is a fun and concrete way of understanding proper fraction, and it is so simple to make! Just have the students cut two identical circles in different colors, cut a slit to the center of each circle, and slot them into each other.

The student can then rotate the circles to form representation of any proper fraction (<1). Not only do students have a concrete way of learning fractions through physical manipulation, it is also easier for them to understand the concept of “parts of a whole”, e.g. 1/4 and 3/4 make one whole.
